Company History
Founded in 1997 by visionary entrepreneur Rick Schwartz, Nashville Zoo had humble beginnings in Joelton, TN, before blossoming into the thriving institution it is today. Rick Schwartz's passion for wildlife and conservation served as the driving force behind the zoo's inception. With a dedicated team of individuals, Schwartz transformed his dream of a world-class zoological facility into a reality.
Originally established on a 13-acre site in Joelton, Nashville Zoo captured the hearts of visitors under Schwartz's leadership. His unwavering commitment to creating an exceptional experience for both animals and guests laid the foundation for the zoo's success. Recognizing the need for expansion, Schwartz guided the zoo through a transformative period, culminating in the relocation to its current site in Grassmere, south of downtown Nashville, in 2001. This move allowed Nashville Zoo to flourish and evolve, expanding its footprint and introducing captivating exhibits that showcase the wonders of the animal kingdom.
Today, Nashville Zoo stands as a testament to Rick Schwartz's vision and dedication. His legacy continues to inspire generations of visitors, providing them with immersive experiences, educational opportunities, and a profound appreciation for wildlife and conservation.
